The 16th annual Hellertown-Lower Saucon Community Day will be held in Dimmick Park this Saturday, Aug. 19, and although much will remain the same, this year there are a few changes to the popular event attendees should know about.

One of the biggest changes is the hours. Community Day will be held from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., making it truly an all-day event for the first time.

A sign advertising Hellertown-Lower Saucon Community Day is posted along Main Street at the north end of Hellertown.

More than 70 local businesses, community organizations and nonprofit groups will fill the park, offering giveaways, information, raffle drawings, food and much more.

In addition to many family-friendly activities and demonstrations planned throughout the day, this year Community Day has partnered with the Music in Dimmick Park free summer concert series. There will be music and entertainment all day, culminating with a 6-8 p.m. concert performance by James Supra & Sarah Ayers at the bandshell.

The Community Day booths in the park will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Live music will continue from 4 to 5 p.m. as vendors clean up and make way for the evening concert, which will include food trucks, local breweries and a winery.

The day’s schedule of events is as follows:

11 a.m. – Opening Ceremony featuring the American Legion Riders, the singing of the National Anthem, the Girl Scouts’ Flag Ceremony and music by the Saucon Valley High School Marching Band.
11:15 a.m. – Presentation of the 2017 “Community Commitment Award”
11:45 a.m. – Lower Saucon Township Police K-9 Unit Demonstration
12:15 p.m. – Performances by Star of the Day Event Productions
1:15 p.m. – Live Music with “The Deadliners”
2:30 p.m. – Dance Performance by En Avant School of Dance
3:15 p.m. – Live Music with “Poor Mouth”
4 p.m. – Live Music with “Last Train Home”
6 p.m. – Music in Dimmick Park Concert: “James Supra and Sarah Ayers”

Other entertainment including demonstrations by Saucon Valley Karate Academy will take place throughout the day. The entire event is free to attend.

The car show that has been held in prior years will not be held this year.

Hellertown-Lower Saucon Community Day is sponsored by Waste Connections Inc.-Eastern Region, En Avant School of Dance, Saucon Valley Manor, Heintzelman Funeral Home Inc., North Saucon Animal Hospital, Lafayette Ambassador Bank, BB&T, Lighthouse Laundry on Main, Lost River Caverns, Physical Therapy at St. Luke’s, Saucon Valley Dance Conservatory, Saucon Valley Karate Academy and Tosto Family Dentistry.
