The 2017 Little Panther Youth Football Season is underway.

Saturday was opening day for youth football in the Lehigh Valley. The four levels (Flags, 90s, 110s and 130s) of the Saucon Valley Little Panthers play in the Colonial Youth Football League and just started their season with home games at Dimmick Park against the Northwestern Lehigh Little Tigers. It was the first of eight regular season games.

This season the Saucon Valley youth coaches are, once again, going to recognize the efforts of their boys and girls as they participate in the football and cheerleading experience. Saucon Source is proud to be partnering with the coaches to share the kids’ successes this season with you!

Football will recognize a player or players every week with a “Panther Pride” recognition award. The cheer coaches will choose deserving girls and identify them with a “Panther Spirit” award.

The recognition of the kids can relate to anything from effort or enthusiasm to the acknowledgement of a great performance. Maybe the award will be for being a good teammate or volunteering their time. It can be for any number of positive things.

The recognition is a fun and special way for the coaches to show their appreciation for the hard work and dedication the boys and girls invest in the football and cheer programs.

Let’s get fired up!

FLAGS

Game Summary: It was a back and forth battle between the Tiger and Panther Flag teams. Taylor Rohn was all over the field both offensively and defensively. On offense he broke free for 3 TDs. His first was a 70-yard run in the 1st half. His second came right out of halftime when he went around the outside for a 60-yard run. His final TD was an 8-yard run up the middle.

Ricky Favere also has numerous big runs from the QB position and had the first TD of the season for us when he took a QB sneak up the middle for 40 yards. This was all possible with great blocking up front by the Little Panther linemen.

90 POUNDERS

Game Summary: This season opener between Northwestern Lehigh and Saucon Valley was a very tight game dominated by both defenses. The Tigers, however were able to squeeze one into the end-zone for the game’s only score. The Little Panthers dropped this match-up 6-0.

Panther quarterback Noah Hubert took care of the ball and guided the offense like a pro. On defense, Hubert also played very well at his outside linebacker position. Likewise, Ezekiel “Beagle” Deily was tough on both sides of the ball. Beagle plays center and nose-guard. These two gentlemen practice hard and play hard. Coach Hill said, “They are a joy to coach. They do all the right things.” Great job guys, we are Panther-Proud of you!

110 POUNDERS

Game Summary: It was another tough loss for the Little Panthers. They started a bit slow and fell behind 13-0 in the first half. After the break, however, they turned it on. Jackson Albert found room around the right end and went 55 yards for a touchdown. Peter Albano just missed the extra point.

The entire Panther defense was outstanding and stepped up in the second half getting stop after stop. But it was Timothy Finken who led the way for the Panthers. Coach Beckowski may have summed it up best in football terms when he affectionately said, “He is a Beast out there. He is just a Beast.”

Unfortunately, the Tiger defense was pretty good as well. The Panthers last gasp was when they went for the win and threw a “Hail Mary.” The Tigers just got a hand on it and tipped it away from the Panthers at the last second. Even though the Panthers played a great second half, the final scoreboard read 13-6 in favor of the Tigers.

Jackson Albert gets the corner and takes it to the house!

130 POUNDERS

Game Summary: The SV 130’s got a little revenge from last year. The Tigers defeated the Panthers the last regular season game and then again in the first round of the playoffs.

This time it was different. Saucon Valley received two touchdowns from Tyler Pfizenmayer and another touchdown by Josh Torres. They are the “Bash-Brothers.” These guys are very hard runners and are serious about getting into the end-zone. In addition, Jake Clements and Josh Torres converted extra points. Torres on a 28-Sweep, Clements off a play-action pass from QB Travis Riefenstahl. Alex “Thunder-Foot” Magnotta added a 2-point PAT kick for his teammates.

Even though the Panther 130s gave up a TD to the Tigers, we need to credit Coach Schneider’s defense with a shut-out. The Tigers were able to return a Panther fumble 38-yards for touchdown. The final score was a Saucon Valley 22, Northwestern Lehigh 6.
