Joseph Charles Sopko, 96, of Lower Saucon (Obituary Brought to You by Heintzelman Funeral Home)

Joseph Charles Sopko, 96, of Lower Saucon Township passed away Sunday, Jan. 28, 2018. He was the loving husband of the late Arline D. (Flammer) Sopko for 63 years. He was born in Hellertown on Nov. 9, 1921 to the late Joseph M. and Anna (Robey) Sopko. Joe, a Chief Communications Officer, was a decorated Marine Corps Veteran of World War II, having served in the South Pacific in places such as in Okinawa and Guadalcanal. He was a valued manager at Western Electric, where he received several awards. Joe was an avid bridge player, golfer and gardener. He was a gentle, kind and generous person to his family and friends, and left this world a better place.

SURVIVORS

He was the devoted Dad of Sandra Sopko and Carol Schade. We all loved him as the loving and nurturing Grandpa of Andrew Schade, James Schade and Joseph M. Sopko.

SERVICE

Family and friends are invited to call from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, 2018 at the Heintzelman Funeral Home Inc., 326 Main St., Hellertown. The calling hour will be followed by the interment at Union Cemetery of Hellertown. Military honors will be accorded by the Edward H. Ackerman American Legion Post 397, Hellertown.
