A Saucon Source reader measured 15 inches of snow in Center Valley Wednesday.
The snow from Wednesday’s early spring storm has ended, leaving many places in the Saucon Valley area with more than a foot of powdery snow on the ground–and lots of clean-up work to do.
According to the National Weather Service, a trained weather spotter in Hellertown reported an accumulation of 13.9 inches of snow at 9:23 a.m. Thursday. A trained spotter in Williams Township reported a measurement of 14.5 inches and in Center Valley and Salisbury Township, spotters reported 13.8 inches and 13.7 inches of snow, respectively.
The highest snowfall amount reported in the Lehigh Valley was 16.2 inches at Zionsville, Lehigh County, according to the NWS.
The recommended way to take a snow measurement is to measure the depth of the snow in three undisturbed, unsheltered locations, add the totals together and then calculate the average.

The snow emergencies that were in effect in the borough of Hellertown were lifted Thursday morning.
In Hellertown residents who parked their cars in the borough lots at Dimmick Park, Tobias Drive, the post office and Water Street Park have 24 hours to remove them.
Residents also have 24 hours to clear their sidewalks of the snow that fell.
Saucon Valley, private and parochial schools are closed Thursday, along with the Hellertown Area Library and the Lower Saucon Township Senior Center at Seidersville Hall on Old Philadelphia Pike.
Some businesses may be closed or have delayed openings due to the weather.
Temperatures are forecast to warm up to around 40 degrees Thursday–which is well below normal for this time of year–but will fall back to the mid 20s overnight Thursday night, meaning black ice could develop on local roads in spots.
There is a slight chance of snow after midnight Saturday night, according to the current National Weather Service forecast.
