UPDATE: Hellertown Fire Chief Make Maguire said initial reports of a stabbing at the fire company Saturday night are incorrect. “There were initially reports of people getting stabbed, but just a few punches thrown,” he said. Maguire confirmed that there was a fight at the event.

Northampton County emergency dispatcher said she received a report of multiple people being stabbed during a reported fight at the Dewey Fire Co. banquet hall in Hellertown borough Saturday night, according to a source familiar with the dispatcher.

The source said the dispatcher received a call in which authorities were “screaming for back up.”

A photo taken at the scene shows a large police response at the fire company, which is a popular venue for weddings and other events, particularly on weekends.

An eyewitness at the scene said she saw a woman in a dress and a man in a “nice vest…lying motionless” outside the building, which is located in the 500 block of Durham Street in the borough.

The witness said that in addition to borough police, state police, Springfield Township police, Lehigh University police and Salisbury Township police were also observed at the incident scene.

“We drove past the (Hellertown) pool and heard blood-curdling screams and (saw) panic all over their faces,” she said.
