John N. Brooks Sr., 90, of Bethlehem, died Friday, June 15, 2018 at his residence. He was the husband of the late Eileen C. (Butkiewicz), who died in 2003.

John N. Brooks Sr., 90, of Bethlehem, died Friday, June 15, 2018 at his residence. He was the husband of the late Eileen C. (Butkiewicz), who died in 2003. John was born in Millvale (outside of Pittsburgh) on June 22, 1927 to the late Henry and Esther (Medlin). He served our country faithfully in the Merchant Marines, Navy and Coast Guard during World War II, Korea and in the Vietnam War. John served in the Navy and Coast Guard for 21.5 years until his retirement. He also worked as a custodian for the Whitehall Post Office for 21 years until retiring in 1988. John was a member of Notre Dame of Bethlehem Catholic Church, Edward H. Ackerman American Legion Post 397, Hellertown, VFW Post 7293 Egypt, Fleet Reserves Association, Coast Guard Chief Petty Officers Association and West Side Republican Club, Bethlehem.

SURVIVORS

Children: John N. Brooks Jr. (Cynthia) of Manassas, Va., David J. (Sharon) of York, Keith B. (Kelly) of Bethlehem, Mary Catherine (Michael) Wagner of Mansfield and Nancy A. (Daniel) De Kok of Norristown; 10 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by siblings.

SERVICE

Family and friends are invited to call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2018 and 10:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Heintzelman Funeral Home Inc., 326 Main St., Hellertown. The Wednesday morning calling hour will be followed by the service at 11 a.m. The interment will conclude services at Cedar Hill Memorial Park, Allentown. Military honors will be accorded by the Edward H. Ackerman American Legion Post 397, Hellertown. Online expressions of sympathy can be recorded at www.heintzelmancares.com.
