Georgina Marion Matthews Freed, 84, of Bethlehem (Steel City) passed away on Monday, Aug. 6, 2018. She was born on June 16, 1934 in Ontario, Canada, to the late George Fulton and Hester (Brown) Mathews. She married Richard L. Freed on Sept. 1, 1956. For many years they attended Steel City Mennonite Church. Later they went to the Bethlehem Community Fellowship and Maranatha Fellowship of Nazareth. Georgina attended Northampton Community College, where she earned a degree in child psychology and art.

SURVIVORS

She is survived by her husband of nearly 62 years; children: Timothy L. and his wife Gale M. of Lewes, Del., Lydia Kathryn Freed of Allentown; brothers: Gordon Bullock, Charles, Thomas Matthews; grandchildren: Johnathan and his wife Amanda, Nicole, Katie Jean Roache and her husband Peter; great-grandchildren: Cynda, Mariah, Eryn, Aradia and Matthew. She was preceded in death by brothers: James Brown and Jack Matthews; sisters: Dorothy Matthews Stoner and Edith Matthews Osmond.

SERVICES

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, 2018 at the Steel City Mennonite Church, 2137 Mixsell Ave., Bethlehem. A viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. Online expressions of sympathy can be recorded at www.heintzelmancares.com. Arrangements are by the Heintzelman Funeral Home Inc., Hellertown.

CONTRIBUTIONS

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
