Fans of The Vineyard–an Italian restaurant in Fountain Hill that closed in late May after 28 years in business–will be pleasantly surprised to know that the landmark eatery is getting a second lease on life, thanks to a change of heart by its longtime owners, Pietro and Maria DiMatteo.

Two of the reasons for the change of heart, Lehigh Valley Live reported in July, are that some health issues Pietro was dealing with have since abated, and that the offers they received at a property auction held in June did not match their expectations.

The Morning Call reported late last month that the couple’s son, Francesco DiMatteo, will take a leadership role inside the 605 N. Fiot Street establishment, which houses a full bar and banquet room and is known for its southern Italian cuisine.

The menu will remain the same and the Vineyard’s reopening is expected sometime late this summer, the newspaper reported. Lehigh Valley Live reported that The Vineyard will open in late September.
