A Hellertown man is charged with causing an accident involving damage to attended property after borough police say he allegedly struck a dog with his car in the 100 block of Front Street Sept. 7 and then left the scene.

A Hellertown man is charged with causing an accident involving damage to attended property after borough police say he allegedly struck a dog with his car in the 100 block of Front Street Sept. 7 and then left the scene.

In a news release issued Wednesday police said Timothy McCarthy, 59, hit the dog at 6:45 p.m.

“Witnesses were able to identify his vehicle and give his registration to police, which enabled police to identify Timothy (McCarthy) as the driver,” police said in the news release.

Police said McCarthy has also been cited for speeding, careless driving, providing false reports and failing to give information and render aid.
