Tickets are now available for the second annual “The Girls” Night Out” event on Thursday, Oct. 25.

Sponsored by St. Luke’s Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, the event will raise funds for cancer survivors, as well as raise awareness of the role breast reconstruction plays in the healing process for many women.

Plastic Surgeons
St. Luke’s Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery physicians (from left to right) Juan Carlos Martinez, MD, W. Michael Morrissey Jr.., MD, and Lino Miele, MD, participate in the 2017 BRA Day festivities. Dr. Morrissey’s offices are located at 1213 Main St., Hellertown.

The event, which will be held at the Event Center at Blue in Bethlehem from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., will feature live entertainment by the band “Rotten Apples” and a complimentary wine tasting provided by Boos Rock Winery.

During the event, participants will select the best decorated bra from among entries submitted by cancer survivors. Guests may also compete for the most creative pink outfit. The event will be held in recognition of Breast Recognition Awareness (BRA) Day, which was observed nationally on Oct. 6.

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the Plastic Surgery Foundation’s Breast Reconstruction Awareness USA Campaign builds awareness of breast reconstruction options after mastectomy and lumpectomy. The goal of their BRA Day event is to share the message that: all women who are candidates for breast reconstruction should be made aware of the options available to them; all women who are candidates for breast reconstruction should be offered treatment in a safe and timely manner; federal law mandates coverage of breast reconstruction for all breast cancer patients, even if such reconstruction is delayed until after other treatments

“St. Luke’s Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery offers several breast reconstructive surgery options, ranging from saline and silicone implants to leading-edge microsurgery options, where physicians use tissue from the patient’s own body to reconstruct the breast,” says plastic and reconstructive surgeon Juan Carlos Martinez, MD. “Knowing beforehand about the options available is comforting to women faced with a breast cancer diagnosis. Through this event, we hope to raise awareness and peace of mind.”
