Little Panther Wrestlers Qualify For Big State Tournament
Last weekend eight Saucon Valley elementary and middle school student-athletes qualified for the Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling State Championship. Both youth and junior-high wrestlers earned their spots for the state championships at a tournament held at Nazareth High School on Sunday, Feb. 25. Now, these little Panthers have advanced and will compete for a Pennsylvania state title.

Both youth and junior-high wrestlers earned their spots for the state championships at a tournament held at Nazareth High School on Sunday, Feb. 25. Now, these little Panthers have advanced and will compete for a Pennsylvania state title.

The 2019 PJW Junior High State Championship Tournament will be held this weekend on March 2nd and 3rd. Saucon Valley eighth graders, Tyler Pfizenmayer (132) and Jake Jones (140), will represent Area XIV as they both try to bring home a state title. Area XIV represents Carbon, Lehigh, Monroe, Northampton and Schuylkill Counties. The junior-high tournament will be held at the Cambria County War Memorial Arena in Johnstown, PA.
Pfizenmayer and Jones both finished in first place at Nazareth and were one of three qualifiers in their respective weight classes. Each will compete this weekend in a 42-man bracket at the Johnstown arena. The junior high division has eighteen weight classes ranging between 77-252 lbs.

Six Saucon Valley wrestlers qualified for the PJW state youth tournament. This tourney will be held in Pittsburgh’s Petersen Event Center on March 16th and 17th. Two wrestlers in every weight class advanced from each of the fourteen areas throughout Pennsylvania. The PJW youth tournament is divided into three divisions based on age (8 & under, 9 & 10 or 11 & 12). U8 consists of seven weight classes between 45 and 90 lbs. 9 & 10 has eleven weight classes between 55-150 lbs. The 11 & 12 division ranges between 65-200 lbs. and has fifteen weight classes.
