Donations to area food banks are down while food prices as well as community need are both up due to the economic repercussions of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, which is why many local pantries are struggling to keep their shelves filled.

That’s why a drive-up food drive for the food bank at New Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lower Saucon Township is planned for Saturday, May 2 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The food bank is in need of mac & cheese, cereal, peanut butter, jelly, canned vegetables and other non-perishable food items.

Due to social distancing requirements that are in place during the pandemic, the food drive will be held curbside in the church’s parking lot.

Donors are asked to place food items (in bags) in their vehicle’s trunk, so volunteers can easily remove them with minimal contact once they arrive.

Monetary donations are also appreciated. Checks should be made payable to the Food Bank at New Jerusalem.

The location of the food drive and mailing address are: New Jerusalem Church, 3233 Apples Church Road, Bethlehem, PA 18015. Thank you in advance for your donations.
