Fatal Crash Closes I-78 in Upper Saucon

A double fatal accident closed a stretch of I-78 east in Upper Saucon Township Monday morning, causing traffic to be diverted off the highway onto local roads throughout the Saucon Valley area.

A double fatal accident closed a stretch of I-78 east in Upper Saucon Township Monday morning, causing traffic to be diverted off the highway onto local roads throughout the Saucon Valley area.

WFMZ News reported that the wreck involved two tractor-trailers and a third vehicle and happened shortly after 5 a.m., approximately one mile past the exit for Rt. 309/Quakertown.

The news station’s report said a westbound lane is also closed, and that the highway is expected to be closed for an extended period of time.

Lower Saucon Township Police issued a bulletin via their Crimewatch site warning residents to expect heavy traffic on roads in the township, as the highway is closed between Rt. 309 and Rt. 412.
