Just days after issuing a similar warning, the Northampton County Sheriff’s Department is warning residents about a jury duty scam currently being reported by citizens. In this scam, an individual posing as a Sheriff’s Department deputy falsely claims that recipients of the call are in trouble because they have failed to appear for jury duty.

The scammer, who identifies himself as a “Sgt. Walker,” then informs the individuals that they must purchase a MoneyPak card in a specified amount and provide the card number to the county as payment for a fine and to avoid arrest for contempt of court.

In a statement released Tuesday, county officials stressed that this is a scam and that the Northampton County Sheriff’s Department does not solicit money from residents in lieu of making arrests.

Residents who receive these or any other types of suspicious solicitation are urged to report them to the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s office by calling 1-800-441-2555 or emailing sc***@at*************.gov.
