Four Northampton County projects–including one in Saucon Valley–will receive over $1.7 million in funding for roadway and pedestrian safety improvements, state Sen. Lisa Boscola (D-18) said Monday. The funding, from the state’s Multimodal Transportation Fund Program (MTF), will support projects in Bethlehem, Forks Township, Hellertown and Easton.

The City of Bethlehem will receive $250,000 for its Northside Alive Streetscape Development project. In Hellertown, $300,000 will be allocated to PD Hellertown LLC for improvements at the Main Street and I-78 interchange. Easton will also receive $163,257 for the Dixie Cup Regional Pedestrian and Bicycle Trail Connector.

Forks Township will receive $1 million to support the second phase of repairs to Frutchey Hill Road, where extensive damage was caused by flooding in July 2023.

“State investment in these multimodal projects will allow these critically needed roadway improvements and pedestrian safety enhancements to move forward.” Boscola said in a news release. “Working with my legislative colleagues of both parties and both chambers made bringing this funding back to Northampton County a reality.”

The Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) approved the funding. The MTF, established through Act 89, aims to stimulate economic development and maintain a reliable transportation system across Pennsylvania.
