John Heilman (1952 – 2025)
John Heilman, 72, of Bethlehem, passed away surrounded by his family on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 at his residence. He was the epitome of resilience and survival. He was the husband of Mary Ann (Pastelyak) Heilman. John was born in St. Petersburg, Fla., on Dec. 18, 1952 to the late John Heilman and Charlass (Cericola) Wyly. The most important thing to John was his family, who he always protected. He was quick-witted and known for his unapologetic humor. There were no boundaries in life for him. It started as a child, when he sailed around the world with his father, Captain John, and all of his brothers. An extended stay in Tahiti is where he developed a lifelong bond with natives, who have since been considered his second family. John faithfully served our country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, being honorably discharged in 1974. He owned and operated his own tile company, J&H Tile, for 25 years, and while his business was square, he certainly was not. “Mr. Fix-It” himself was valued as an unconventional auto mechanic for many years and could rig just about anything. When he wasn’t tinkering, you could find him with his favorite whiskey, shining his guns and watching cowboy movies. John was a unique man who, even in death, left a lasting impression on those who knew him. Always ready for action, he’s now sailing freely, wind at his back, waiting for his loved ones to follow him out to sea.
