Man, 21, Killed in I-78 Overpass Crash

A 21-year-old man has died from injuries he suffered in a motor vehicle accident on I-78 east in Upper Saucon Township Thursday night, Lehigh County Coroner Dan Buglio said Friday.

According to a news release from Buglio’s office, Edwin Noel Diaz of Allentown was eastbound near mile marker 60.5 around 8:20 p.m. when the vehicle he was driving veered off a highway overpass and “onto the interstate below.” Mile marker 60.5 is located in the area of the overpass for northbound Rt. 309 traffic merging onto I-78 west and Rt. 145 north and southbound Rt. 145 traffic merging onto Rt. 309 south.

Buglio said Diaz was pronounced dead from multiple blunt force injuries at 1:13 a.m. Friday at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest in Salisbury Township. His death was ruled an accident.

In addition to the coroner’s office, Pennsylvania State Police at Fogelsville are investigating the crash.
