Alfred Louis Horvath (1940 – 2025)
Alfred Louis Horvath, 85, of Hellertown, peacefully passed away at his home on Thursday, June 26, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. He was the devoted husband of Mary Ann (Wagner) Horvath, with whom he shared 66 years of marriage since Sept. 20, 1958. Born in Bethlehem on March 27, 1940, he was the son of the late Alfred E. and Mary D. (Hacker) Horvath. A proud graduate of Hellertown High School, Class of 1958, Alfred continued his studies at Penn State University in the field of metallurgy, laying the foundation for a lifetime of dedication and craftsmanship. He began his career at the former Bethlehem Steel, working as a claims adjuster for 18 years. He later joined Orkin Steel, where he served faithfully in purchasing and sales for 22 years until his retirement. A man of unwavering faith and purpose, Alfred was a lifelong member of Christ Lutheran Church in Hellertown. He was also deeply devoted to the principles and fellowship of Freemasonry. A Past Worshipful Master of Lodge 563 F.&A.M., Hellertown, Alfred embodied the spirit of service, charity and brotherhood. He traveled far and wide in his Masonic journey, always seeking to visit and support those in need. Through his work in various Masonic bodies—including the Royal Arch Ezra Chapter 216, Valley of Allentown Scottish Rite, Rajah Temple, Shriners and the Knights Templar—he touched countless lives with his wisdom, generosity and kindness. Alfred lived with a reverence for nature and the outdoors. He found joy in hunting, fishing, camping and gardening, often sharing stories of these adventures with his family and friends. He was a proud member of the Hiawatha Hunt Club, Trout Unlimited and the Hellertown Sportsmen’s Association. He also had a deep love for classical music and was a supporter of the arts. A life member of the National Rifle Association, Alfred lived with conviction and character. An extraordinary milestone in his life was his long-standing contribution to Miller-Keystone Blood Center, where he donated over 20 gallons of blood—one of his many quiet acts of service to the community. Alfred’s life was a reflection of his values—faith, fraternity, family and service. He lived not for himself but for others, with humility and purpose, always answering the call to help his neighbors and brethren. He will be deeply missed by all who had the honor to know him.
