Southern Lehigh School News & Notes is a monthly column highlighting student achievement and district news. Southern Lehigh School District serves approximately 3,000 students in Upper Saucon Township, Lower Milford Township & Coopersburg borough.

SLHS STUDENT NAMED LVHN FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR: Congratulations to the LVHN Female Athlete of the Year, Alexis Hoyer! Alexis has demonstrated leadership and sportsmanship as captain of the SLHS girls volleyball team, which won the District XI Class AAA championship this year. She has also served as president of SLSD MiniTHON, which has raised tens of thousands of dollars for the treatment of pediatric cancer patients. She will be attending Rowan University this fall.

KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION: Visit Slsd.org to register. Children must be five years old by Sept. 1, 2025 to be registered.

CONGRATULATIONS: Congratulations to Mrs. Halloran on her retirement. Mrs. Halloran spent 13 years at SLMS, going above and beyond daily as an Academic Literacy teacher and Student Council advisor. The middle school is better due to her commitment to education and genuine love for her students. 

SLMS STUDENTS RECEIVE AWARDS FOR CITIZENSHIP: Congratulations to Ellie M. and Colton K. for receiving state Sen. Jarrett Coleman’s (R-16) Outstanding Citizenship Award.

STAFF-NOMINATED AWARD RECIPIENTS: Congratulations to Gabby M., Hailey H., Leah R., Arjeniz C. and Jade F., and Fenway N. for receiving one of SLSD’s special staff-nominated awards.

JOSH VANKUREN AWARDS: Congratulations to Evelyn H. and Declan W. for receiving the Josh VanKuren Award. The award is presented annually to an eighth grade female and an eighth grade male student who demonstrate the highest level of achievement in academics, athletics and social responsibility.

SLMS STUDENT COUNCIL: The 2024–2025 SLMS Student Council’s leadership, creativity and dedication helped make Southern Lehigh Middle School a more fun, welcoming and inspiring place to learn and grow. Thank you for making a difference!
