According to borough police, Isaac Benjamin Sharkan was arrested July 15 after allegedly throwing a knife at his father, “dousing him in the face and eyes with bleach, throwing a metal track and then punching him in the head twice.”
Police said officers arrested Sharkan after responding to an apartment in the 200 block of Main Street for a reported “domestic in progress” on the afternoon of July 15.
They said Sharkan initially refused to obey officers’ commands and resisted arrest, but was eventually taken into custody.
Police said that in consultation with the Northampton County District Attorney’s office Sharkan has been charged with two counts of Felony 1 Aggravated Assault, two counts of Felony 2 Aggravated Assault, Misdemeanor 1 Terroristic Threats, two counts of Misdemeanor 2 Recklessly Endangering Another Person, four counts of Misdemeanor 2 Simple Assault and Misdemeanor 2 Resisting Arrest.
Following a preliminary arraignment before District Judge Alan Mege on Tuesday, Sharkan was committed to Northampton County Prison in lieu of $250,000 straight cash bail. As of Friday afternoon he was still in jail, according to court records.
According to the docket filed in his case, a preliminary hearing before Judge Mege is scheduled for Tuesday, July 29 at 9:30 a.m. in District Court 03-2-04 in Lower Saucon Township.
The docket did not list an attorney for Sharkan, but said he has been provided with an application for a public defender.
