Woman Loses $5,000 in Bitcoin Scam, Police Say
An upper Bucks County woman was recently swindled out of $5,000 by someone impersonating an employee at her bank.
According to state police at Dublin, last week the Riegelsville resident received an email from someone who claimed to be a Paypal employee, in which she was advised that her account was fraudulently being used to make purchases. Police said that after calling a provided phone number, the woman “eventually spoke with someone acting as an employee from her bank.”
“The male convinced the victim to spend $5,000 at a Bitcoin machine, where her money was then sent to the suspect,” they added.
