New life could soon be breathed into a former Rite Aid in Hellertown, according to the Hellertown Planning Commission’s Nov. 12 meeting agenda.

According to the agenda, planners will discuss a proposal by St. Luke’s University Health Network to convert the building at 110 Main Street into medical offices.

“This work will not include additional impervious coverage or changes to the existing access drives,” the agenda said. “The existing drive-thru will be demolished, new parking spaces will be striped and the main doors of the building will be adjusted.”

The Hellertown Rite Aid closed over the summer, a few months before the last of the company’s stores was shuttered.

The news that the Rite Aid could be redeveloped by one of the region’s largest health care networks comes as another regional provider is constructing a microhospital and medical office building on Main Street at the north end of Hellertown.

The Planning Commission meeting will be held Wednesday, Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. at Borough Hall. Meetings are open to the public and are also livestreamed on Zoom.
