Erma F. Sherer (1929 – 2025)

Erma F. Sherer, 96, of Lower Saucon Township, died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2025, at the Inpatient Hospice at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown. She was the wife of the late Frank S. Sherer, who died April 4, 2003. Born in Hellertown on Feb. 23, 1929, Erma was the daughter of the late Michael and Anna (Posvek) Banko. She was primarily a devoted homemaker, caring for her family and home, and also worked at the former Champion Spark Plug and Laros Pants Factory. Erma was a longtime and active member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Springtown, where she was well-known for her baking and willingness to help whenever needed. She especially enjoyed baking, gardening, watching the Cooking Channel and participating in contests at the Allentown Fair with various award-winning pies, breads and flowers. A skilled baker, she earned numerous blue ribbons for her apple pies at fairs in Allentown, Harrisburg and Georgia. Erma also served her community as a Deputy Constable in Lower Saucon Township for 70 years and was a member of the Southeastern Fire Company.
SURVIVORS
She is survived by her daughters: Bethany F. Deichmeister of Northampton and Kristine A. Sherer of Lower Saucon Township; and her sister: Anna (Frank) Petak of Hellertown. She was predeceased by eight siblings.
SERVICES
Family and friends are invited to call from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 22, 2025, at the Heintzelman Funeral Home Inc., 326 Main St., Hellertown. The calling hour will be followed by the service at 11 a.m. Interment will be at The Union Cemetery of Hellertown.
