John Kospiah (1933 – 2025)

John Kospiah

John Kospiah, of Bethlehem, passed away peacefully on Dec. 22, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. He was the devoted husband of Maryann Kospiah, with whom he shared 63 wonderful years of marriage before her passing in 2020. Born on Dec. 29, 1933, in Bethlehem, John was the son of Anna and John Kospiah and the oldest of five children. He grew up in Lower Saucon Township, where he learned the values of hard work, loyalty and family that would guide him throughout his life. John proudly served his country in the United States Army as a member of the 82nd Airborne, dedicating seven-and-a-half years of service that took him to many countries. After his military service, he built a long and steady career with Bethlehem Steel, retiring after 36 years. Earlier in life, John also worked for several local businesses, including Just Born, B&M Provisions and Champion Spark Plugs. John found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved watching cooking shows and game shows, grocery shopping and cooking meals, fishing, hunting and clamming along the Jersey Shore. Wildwood Crest, N.J., held a special place in his heart, though he also cherished family cruises and memorable trips to Las Vegas with his wife.

SURVIVORS

He is survived by his loving daughters: Deborah Calianno and her husband Vito of McKinney, Texas, Diane Kiefer and her husband Steve of Hellertown, and Donna Sabo and her husband John of Bethlehem. He was a proud grandfather to Stephen (Lauren), Daniel (Sarah), Vito Anthony, Nicole (Zach) and James, and a devoted great-grandfather to Crew Kiefer, Fallon Sabo and Lia Kiefer, who lovingly knew him as “Pop Pop John.” John is also survived by his brother Michael Kospiah and sister Georgene Wagstaff.
