Snow in the Forecast for Saturday
The Martin Luther King Day weekend could get off to a snowy start according to weather forecasters, who are predicting that some parts of the area could see modest accumulations on Saturday, as well as a bit more on Sunday.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for 2 to 4 inches of snow from 1 a.m. to 4 p.m. for Northampton County, where it said slippery road conditions may develop. The advisory also includes parts of the Poconos and northwestern New Jersey.
A high in the upper 30s is expected Saturday, so temperatures on roads and sidewalks may be marginal for the snow to ‘stick.’
The bigger weather story may be the cold air that is forecast to follow Saturday’s snow. Frigid conditions are expected by Tuesday, when the high temperature is only expected to be in the upper teens, which is nearly 20 degrees below normal.
Temperatures are forecast to remain frosty for much of next week, with lows around 10 degrees Monday and Tuesday night.
In a forecast discussion Friday afternoon, NWS meteorologists said some additional snow is possible Sunday, especially across areas closer to the coast.
“A low pressure system developing offshore will likely bring some snow to coastal areas Sunday and potentially as far north
and west as the I-95 corridor,” they said. “However, the probability of there being a significant snowstorm remains low.”
