Walter J. Szmodis (1952 – 2026)

Walter J. Szmodis, 73, of Lower Saucon Township, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2026 at his residence. He was the husband of Deborah A. (Rose) Szmodis, with whom he shared 54 years of marriage. Born in Bethlehem on Nov. 13, 1952, he was the son of the late John and Doris G. (Mansfeld) Szmodis. Walter was a self-employed mechanic for many years, owning and operating the former Walt’s Auto Service in Allentown from 1982 until 2019. He later worked in the same capacity for Maurer & Scott in Coopersburg. He was known for his skill, work ethic and willingness to help others. Walter was a member of St. Luke’s Old Williams Lutheran Church, Hellertown.

SURVIVORS

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Butch J. Szmodis and his wife Sharon of Hellertown, and Wendy Miller and her husband Tom of Kunkletown; his siblings, Gary A. Szmodis and his wife Joanne of Greenville, N.C., and Jane E. Cserpnyak and her companion Joe Koch of Jacksonville, N.C.; six grandchildren, Alexis, Paige, Brooke, Tylor, Gaven and Gauge; and five great-grandchildren, Norrin, Adanevaeh, Milo, Darby and Talen.
