Forecasters: Freezing Temps Could Damage Plants, Flowers

If you have recently planted flowers or vegetables outside, be aware that subfreezing temperatures expected Monday night could damage or kill them.

The National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning for Lehigh, Northampton, Bucks and surrounding counties from midnight to 9 a.m. Tuesday for temperatures as low as 24 degrees.

According to the NWS, along with crops and tender plants, outdoor plumbing that has water in it could also be affected.

The cold snap comes on the heels of a near-heat wave last week, when temperatures reached 90 degrees in the Lehigh Valley.

So far, temperatures in April have been well above average across the area.

Tuesday’s chill will be followed by a warmup later in the week, with temperatures around 70 expected Thursday and Friday.
