Electronics Recycling Event Planned in Lower Saucon

If you’re a Lower Saucon Township resident with old electronics or other “e-junk” you would like to get rid of, mark your calendar for Saturday, Sept. 19. That’s when the township’s Environmental Advisory Council (EAC) will host a drive-thru electronics recycling event at the municipal complex at 3700 Old Philadelphia Pike, Bethlehem, from 9 a.m. to noon.

According to an event flyer, the location of the collection will be the Public Works Garage. Some examples of fees that will be charged for certain items include:

Televisions: $25 (for 20 inches or smaller), $45 (21 inches or larger), $55 (projection TVs)
Stereo Speakers: $5
Microwaves: $5
Multifunctional Printers: $20
Printer/Scanners: $5
Humidifiers: $3
Vacuum Cleaners: $3
Keyboards/Mice: $1
Video Game Consoles: $1
Radios: $1

Items that will be accepted for free include laptops, tablets, computer towers, servers, cords, cables, hard drives, cell phones and telephones.

Items containing freon, biohazardous materials and radioactive materials will not be accepted.

Payment must be with cash or by check made payable to Clean Earth. The flyer also noted that prices are subject to change.

Also on the horizon is a household hazardous waste collection event for Northampton County residents which is planned for Saturday, Oct. 3 at Northampton Community College. According to the summer newsletter published by the township, registration is required and will begin Sept. 3, with more information to be available via the county’s website.

Later in the fall, the EAC is planning a Backyard Home & Garden Compost Bin Workshop where both residents and non-residents will be able to create a compost bin for use at home. The cost to participate is $20 and there is a registration requirement, with a limit of 60 participants. Registration will be available at the EAC booth at Community Day in Hellertown’s Dimmick Park, which will be held Saturday, Aug. 15.
