Xfinity Internet Coming to Fountain Hill

If you live in Fountain Hill, you’ll soon have a new option for home internet. Philadelphia-based Xfinity has been updating the community with mailers announcing that “Fiber-powered Wifi is moving in,” which it explains is a hybrid broadband internet service “powered by fiber and connected to the premises by coaxial cable.”

The postcards encourage recipients to visit the Xfinity website and, after verifying availability, complete a form to receive updates.

According to the site, the rollout will be happening this fall. It notes that “residential internet plans include WiFi equipment and the option to guarantee your internet price for five years.”

The postcards promise “lightning speed…uploads and downloads” and that customers will be able to cut their mobile bills “in half.” They also promise a one-year, no obligation free trial of Xfinity Mobile, which is a wireless phone service offered by parent company Comcast.

As a Mobile Virtual Network Operator, Xfinity Mobile uses cell towers owned by other companies, bundling them with public wifi networks.

The postcard’s fine print notes that “Xfinity Mobile requires residential post-pay Internet,” for which speeds may vary.

“Due to current equipment capabilities, download speeds are limited to 940 Mbps in certain properties,” it said.

The postcards don’t reference pricing, but according to Xfinity.com the company currently offers a 300 Mbps Wifi plan for $40 a month and a Gig Wifi plan for $50 a month, with prices locked in for five years.

The Xfinity website features FAQs about residential and business internet plans offered by the company, and what the construction timeline may look like in the communities where it is expanding.

“You may notice construction crews and equipment such as drills, large trucks, trailers and more,” it said. “All workers will always wear safety vests and identification showing they are Xfinity employees or authorized contractors.”

“Construction typically occurs in phases,” it noted. “While work near your home may only take a few days, full construction in your area can take weeks or months depending on weather and conditions. The timelines all vary on terrain, existing infrastructure and local municipalities.”

Xfinity has been steadily expanding its network northward into the Lehigh Valley in recent years, with recent rollouts in municipalities to the south of Fountain Hill, including Hellertown, Lower Saucon Township and Upper Saucon Township.
