Applicants Sought to Fill Saucon Valley School Board Vacancy

If you’re someone with a passion for public education or who is simply interested in supporting it at the local level, there is currently a unique opportunity to serve the community in the Saucon Valley School District.

Following the resignation of school board member Dr. Laurel Erickson-Parsons earlier this month, the district is seeking applicants to fill a board seat from September 2026 until December 2027.

Applicants for the seat must be at least 18 years old, be current residents of the Saucon Valley School District and have maintained residency within the district for at least a year. The district includes Hellertown borough and Lower Saucon Township.

Interested applicants must submit a letter of interest to Board Secretary Wendy Weeast by 12 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 11, 2026. Candidates may also include a resume as part of their submission, but doing so is not required.

Applications must be submitted electronically or delivered in person to the Saucon Valley School District during normal business hours.

Applications should be submitted to:

Wendy Weeast, Board Secretary
Saucon Valley School District
2097 Polk Valley Road
Wendy.Weeast@svpanthers.org

At a special meeting Sept. 15, each candidate will have up to five minutes to introduce themselves and explain why they are seeking to fulfill the vacancy on the school board.

Following candidate introductions, the board will engage in a question-and-answer session with the applicants seeking to fill the vacancy.

The Saucon Valley School Board is made up of nine local residents who are elected to four-year terms. Board responsibilities include drafting and updating the district’s operational policies, approving curriculum and other recommendations from the superintendent, determining educational standards, hiring teachers and other district staff members, adopting an annual budget and approving spending, levying taxes paid annually by property owners within the district and approving an annual school calendar.

The board normally meets the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. in the high school LGI room. Meetings are open to the public and livestreamed on YouTube, where recordings of past meetings are available on the SVSD’s channel.

The next regular meeting of the Saucon Valley School Board will be held Tuesday, Sept. 8 at 7 p.m.

More information about the board, including meeting agendas and minutes, may be found on the district’s website.
