County Officials Add Ballot Drop Box in Lower Saucon

Northampton County officials have expanded access to ballot drop boxes by adding several new ones throughout the county, including one in Lower Saucon Township.

The box for mail-in and absentee ballots is located in the lobby of the Lower Saucon Township municipal building at 3700 Old Philadelphia Pike, Bethlehem, PA 18015. It will be accessible Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Fridays from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. through Election Day, which is Tuesday, Nov. 3.

With the addition of Lower Saucon Township and several other new ballot drop boxes, there are now 10 total throughout the county.

Northampton County is also hosting a series of Voter Services Pop-up events in the coming weeks.

A pop-up will be held at the Lower Saucon Township building on Friday, Oct. 16 from 9 am. to noon. A pop-up event will also be held at Hellertown Borough Hall, 685 Main St., Hellertown PA 18055 on Thursday, Oct. 22 from noon to 3 p.m. That event will not include voter registration services, as the last day to register to vote in the Nov. 3 election in Pennsylvania is Monday, Oct. 19.

In a news release that addressed potential security concerns about the drop boxes, Northampton County District Attorney Stephen Baratta’s office noted that it has “jurisdiction over criminal election law violations such as voter intimidation and coercion, voting and ballot fraud, interference with election officials, and polling place disruption and interference.”

“Any violations should be reported to the law enforcement agency covering the jurisdiction of the Drop Box location or Voter Services Pop-Up location,” it said. “Violations can also be reported to the Office of the District Attorney at 610-829-6638.”

The Northampton County Elections Office is also hosting ballot-on-demand voting at the office in Easton, which allows registered to voters to complete an application for immediate processing and then fill out a ballot on the spot or take it with them and return it later. This service is only available to county residents who haven’t applied for a mail-in ballot. More information about on-demand voting may be found at Pa.gov.
