Tacos to Replace Bagels in Coopersburg
A little over a year after bringing New York-style bagels to Coopersburg, the owners of Coopersburg Bagels & Deli have closed their doors, but according to signs the space won’t be empty for long.
The decision to close the bagel store is the subject of an ongoing discussion in the public Coopersburg Living Group on Facebook, where a number of residents say they are upset that they will no longer be able to patronize the business, which had developed a loyal clientele.
In a Sept. 28 post on the Coopersburg Bagels Facebook page, an owner of the business cited issues involving a partnership in announcing what he called a temporary closure. Channel 69 News reported in a September 2025 story about Coopersburg Bagels & Deli that the business was then co-owned by Angel Juarez and Hector Sanchez.
“As many of you know, there are two partners in this business, and sometimes things simply don’t turn out the way we planned. Sometimes there are differences, different ideas or moments when two people don’t agree on the direction they want to take,” the page post said. “Starting this October 1st, we will be temporarily closing our doors to make some remodeling improvements to the business and, most importantly, to take some time to talk between ourselves, work through our differences and see if we can find a way to move forward.”
Signs outside the closed business are currently advertising that a new Mexican eatery called Brothers Tacos will be opening there soon.
The same storefront at E. Station Avenue and Main Street in the borough’s downtown was home to a Mexican restaurant before the bagel shop opened there in August 2025. Jose Tejas, the original poster in the Coopersburg Facebook group, in addition to announcing the closure, questioned why that location has seemingly had a high frequency of business turnovers in recent years.
“People complain about wanting cute, local shops but no one actually supports them,” said Erin Anthony in a reply that received 70 upvotes. “Just like the Coopersburg Farmers Market. If people in this town don’t start supporting the small businesses, they’re gonna all disappear.”
Downtown Coopersburg is home to a handful of restaurants and other food or drink-based establishments, including Good Jakes Restaurant, Tony’s Pizza, Jaquelyn’s on Main and Sage Alley Brewery. A number of other dining options are located along the busy Rt. 309 corridor nearby.
