Giant Website, App Still Down Following Cyberattack

Four days after a cyberattack crippled Giant’s online platforms, the grocery store chain’s website has yet to come back online and some customers are venting their frustration.

As of early Friday morning, Giant hadn’t posted an explanation for the outage on its Facebook page, but a message on the homepage at Giantfoodstores.com thanked customers for their “patience and understanding.”

“Our GIANT website and app are currently unavailable, and we’re working to restore service as quickly as possible,” it says. “We know you count on us to make shopping easy and convenient, and we’re sorry for the disruption. In the meantime, you can continue to shop GIANT through DoorDash, Instacart, or Uber Eats. GIANT stores, pharmacies, and fuel stations remain open during normal business hours. Thank you for being a GIANT customer. We truly appreciate your patience and understanding while we work to get things back up and running.”

Later Friday morning, in a Facebook update, Giant acknowledged that its current “app and website outages are frustrating” and told customers “we appreciate your patience.”

In response to information in that post, some customers were commenting that they wished they had known that the company is now offering shoppers “10% off your in-store purchase (up to $10 total savings)” before they had done their grocery shopping for the week.

On an earlier post on the Giant Facebook page, customers had commented that they were unable to see–and were thus less likely to use–ad coupons and to track their gas points and other savings due to the online outage.

“How long does it take to fix the app? It’s been days,” one customer commented Thursday on Giant’s post from Oct. 10.

“GIANT so the app and website are down due to a cyberattack; how are we supposed to be able to get an ad to plan our visit?” another customer wrote. “I mean according to the person or AI bot I chatted with last week in the website chat, Giant is no longer supplying its ad through delivery via USPS.”

At the Giant store in Hellertown Friday morning, a sign taped to a window in a store entryway informed customers that due to the current system outage, “all digital coupons featured during the 10/16 – 10/22 ad week” are being automatically honored.

A manager at the store referred all questions about the outage to the company’s corporate offices, which are located in Carlisle, Pa.

Public Relations Manager for Giant/Martin’s Ashley Flowers said Friday that the company is “working to restore service as quickly as possible.”

She provided the following statement:

Any unfulfilled orders placed through Giantfoodstores.com or the GIANT app will be refunded. Delivery orders can be placed through Instacart, DoorDash, and Uber Eats. GIANT stores, pharmacies, and fuel stations remain open during normal business hours.

While we’re experiencing technical difficulties, we’re making it easy for our customers to still get savings. Currently, shoppers can ask store teams about digital offers at checkout or customer service. Starting today, GIANT will automatically activate every digital coupon in our new weekly circular with your GIANT or MARTIN’S card. Customers with a GIANT or MARTIN’S card can earn points by entering their phone number or scanning their card at checkout in-store and can redeem for eligible gas discounts at the pump.

In addition, also starting today, customers will receive an email offer for 10% off their next in-store purchase, up to $10 off, in place of the weekly promotional email. This offer is valid through October 22, 2026, and is limited to one redemption per household. Customers must mention the email offer to the cashier, and scan cards have been distributed to stores to make the discount process simple at checkout.

According to published reports, the outage began Monday after Giant parent company Ahold Delhaize was struck by a cyberattack. Also targeted by the cybercriminals were other grocery chains, including the New England-based supermarket chains Hannaford and Stop & Shop.

Based in Zaandam, Netherlands, Ahold Delhaize released the following statement about the attack on Tuesday.

As was shared on October 12, 2026, Ahold Delhaize is experiencing a cybersecurity issue within its network. Our teams are taking steps to assess and mitigate the issue. This resulted in us taking precautionary measures, including taking some systems offline to help protect them.

We recognize that these actions have caused disruption for customers, associates and partners, but protecting our infrastructure in the best interest of our customers, associates and partners is a top priority. Our teams are working with urgency to investigate the incident and restore affected systems safely. As they make progress in assessing and mitigating the issues, we are in the process of starting a controlled re-launch of certain systems.

As part of our response, we are working with relevant internal teams and external cybersecurity experts. We are engaging with the appropriate authorities and other stakeholders as necessary. As the investigation is ongoing, we are not sharing further details that could compromise security measures or interfere with our response efforts. Although our investigation is still ongoing, we have no evidence at this moment that customer, associate and partner data was taken in this cybersecurity incident.

Our brands’ stores across Europe and the United States remain open and are serving customers. The impact of our preventative measures differs per brand. Each local brand is working hard to serve its customers and minimize disruption.

We will provide further updates when appropriate. We apologize for any inconvenience this issue may have caused customers and partners.

NL Times reported Friday that in spite of the serious ripple effects of the multi-day outage throughout the international business community, no investigation had so far been launched into the cyberattack by Dutch authorities because Ahold Delhaize had not yet reported it to police.

Locally, Giant operates more than a dozen stores, including locations in Hellertown, Coopersburg, Quakertown, Allentown, Bethlehem, Nazareth and Easton.

Note: This is a developing news story. If and when more information becomes available, it will be updated.

A sign in a window at the Hellertown Giant store informs customers that digital coupons will be automatically honored because of a system outage that is currently affecting the company’s website and app.
