A Lower Saucon Township man will be cited for Accidents Involving Damage to Property, township police said Thursday, after he allegedly struck a telephone pole at Town Hall Park (behind the police station) at 3700 Old Philadelphia Pike while driving there Thursday at about 6 a.m.

In a news release, police said Peter Skelly, of the 1300 block of Stonesthrow Road, didn’t immediately report the accident, and the pole was found on the ground.

They said he later came to the department and told them he struck the pole with his truck while trying to reach for a dropped cigarette.

“The pole will need to be replaced,” police said. “The township received an estimate to replace the pole which was $3,095.”
