Saucon Students Making A Difference With Pet Supply Drive Contest
The Saucon Valley High School National Honor Society created a pet supply donation contest to collect items for a local shelter. The donations benefitted the Center for Animal Health and Welfare in Easton.
Saucon Valley High School’s National Honor Society and their advisor, Miss Jessica Frederick, created a “pet supply donation” contest to collect items for a local shelter. The no-kill shelter the students selected was The Center For Animal Health & Welfare located in Easton.
The NHS students created a point system competition for various items from which the shelter would benefit. The donations included cleaning supplies, pet food, blankets, towels, cat scratching posts, cat litter, pet toys, collars and more. Each day of the contest, which ran for two weeks in February, student organizers made the rounds and calculated the point values of collected items in each classroom.
The winning group was Mr. Cameron Fowler’s first period Physics class. Fowler’s team won a breakfast from Bagel Basket as well as VIP passes allowing students to skip the lunch line in the cafeteria.
On Thursday, Feb. 16 several members of Saucon Valley’s NHS volunteered for a few hours at the shelter when the items were dropped off. “Thanks to all who donated, the pet drive was a huge success,” Miss Frederic commented. “The Center has great staff members running the shelter, which has free roaming areas for both dogs and cats. It is a wonderful place to adopt a pet!”
And, it is a wonderful community we live in with our students giving back. A Saucon Source Salute to all who participated in this creative, worthwhile operation.
