The brave service of those who have given their lives in defense of the United States was honored at a Memorial Day service hosted by the Edward H. Ackerman American Legion Post 397 and presided over by Legion Commander Eric Medei at Union Cemetery of Hellertown Sunday.

The 2 p.m. ceremony featured guest speakers including Hellertown Mayor David Heintzelman and State Rep. Robert Freeman, readings, music, the laying of wreaths at the cemetery war memorial and an honor guard salute.
