Russel A. Varner, 91, of Hellertown, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2018 at Saucon Valley Manor, Hellertown. Arrangements are by the Heintzelman Funeral Home Inc., Hellertown.

Russel A. Varner, 91, of Hellertown, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2018 at Saucon Valley Manor, Hellertown. He was the husband of Margaret L. (Traupman) Varner. He was born in Forty Fort, Pa., on Nov. 14, 1926 to the late Russell J. and Marie (Weber) Varner. Russel served our country faithfully in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked at the former Bethlehem Steel Corporation in the Coke Ovens for 38 years, retiring as a foreman in 1983. Russel was a member of St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Roman Catholic Church, Hellertown, and the Coke Ovens Golf League & Bowling League. He was a soft-spoken person but had a heart of gold. Russel enjoyed woodworking, fishing at Lake Minisink, and most of all enjoying time with his family. He was well-loved and will be missed by his beloved family.

SURVIVORS

In addition to his loving wife of 72 years; children: Donald R. and his wife Janet of Mechanicsburg, Elizabeth L. and her husband William P. Borger of East Allen Township, Katherine M. and her husband Shawn Sofie of Bethlehem Township; 6 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by siblings: Willard and Elizabeth Duane.

SERVICE

Family and friends are invited to call from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, 2018 at the Heintzelman Funeral Home Inc., 326 Main St., Hellertown. The calling hour will be followed by the service at 11 a.m. The interment will conclude services at Union Cemetery of Hellertown. Military honors will be accorded by the Edward H.
