Macungie Man Stopped in Hellertown Was Wanted in Lebanon Co.: Police

A Macungie man who Hellertown police say was stopped for allegedly speeding on Easton Road Wednesday morning was discovered to be someone wanted by authorities in Lebanon County.

A Macungie man who was stopped for allegedly speeding on Easton Road Wednesday was also discovered to be wanted by authorities in Lebanon County, Hellertown Police said. But that was only after Dale Meryl Leidich, 61, of the first block of Willington Drive, allegedly provided them with false identification, police added in a news release.

According to police, Leidich was also driving on a suspended driver’s license when he was stopped shortly after 9 a.m. while driving a silver 2001 Toyota RAV4.

Police said Leidich was arrested on the outstanding bench warrant and committed to Northampton County Prison to await extradition by Lebanon County authorities.

According to online court records, Leidich is charged with two misdemeanor counts of theft by deception and one misdemeanor count of writing bad checks in a case out of North Cornwall Township, Lebanon County, in which charges were filed last October.

A jury trial in that case that was scheduled for March was canceled, according to records.

As of Thursday morning court records had not yet been updated to list the latest charges–providing false identification to law enforcement and driving while operating privileges are suspended or revoked as well as speeding–filed against Leidich by Hellertown Police.
