What served as a Fellowship Hall at the former Mountainview Moravian Church is now an ultra-modern sanctuary featuring plush chairs, recessed lighting, large screens, a drum booth and high-tech audio/visual equipment at Lehigh Valley Brazilian Church in Hellertown.

A vibrant faith community held an event Sunday to celebrate the opening of their new church in Hellertown’s Mountainview neighborhood.

After worshipping for several years in rented space in South Bethlehem, Lehigh Valley Brazilian Church officials bought and renovated the former Mountainview Moravian Church, which closed in November 2024 after a period of declining membership.

Located in a residential area along Constitution Avenue, the building has been reconfigured to meet the needs of the growing congregation.

The former sanctuary has been turned into a fellowship hall, and the room that fulfilled that purpose at Mountainview Moravian is now an ultra modern sanctuary equipped with large screen TVs, multimedia equipment and a soundproof drum booth for use during worship.

Following a ribbon-cutting ceremony held on the church’s front lawn during a break in Sunday’s rain, a reception and tours were held inside the building. The renovations undertaken by the congregation extend to the church’s offices and other rooms that will be used regularly.

During the ceremony, Hellertown Borough Council President Lynley Solt, acting as interim mayor in Mayor David Heintzelman’s absence, presented the church’s pastors with a ceremonial key to the borough and formally welcomed the congregation to Hellertown.
