Volunteers Hard at Work Planning 100th Anniversary Carnival

Dewey Fire Co. No. 1 volunteers are already hard at work planning the company’s 100th annual Fire Company Carnival, which will be held Tuesday, July 14 through Saturday, July 18 in Dimmick Park, Hellertown.

Although the celebration is still months away, the fire company has already formulated a schedule of events, which it recently posted on its Facebook page.

The schedule is as follows:

Come out and see a display of Saucon Valley fire trucks and equipment. Live music by local country band Turn Row

Wednesday, July 15: $20 Ride Night

Thursday, July 16: Throw Back Thursday
A classic car and truck show, the Centennial Carnival Celebration Cruise, will be held. “Oldies” music will be performed by The Main Street Cruisers.

This 1915 Model T Ford will be on display at the Dewey Fire Co. Centennial Carnival Celebration Cruise.

Saturday, July 18: Bike Night A motorcycle run will be held, along with local motorcycle dealers and related displays/sales.

New to the carnival this year will be an Antique Fire and Emergency Services Muster and flea market that will be held Sunday, July 19 at noon. The muster will showcase antique and vintage firetrucks and equipment, including some dating back to the early 1900s, and the flea market will feature vendors and dealers selling new and used apparatus.

A landing by the PennSTAR 3 helicopter, which is affiliated with St. Luke’s University Hospital in Fountain Hill, is also planned.

More details about all of the events that are being planned will be announced in the coming weeks and months, so those planning to attend should be sure to like and follow the Dewey Fire Co. 100th Anniversary Carnival Facebook page, as well as the separate pages created for the muster and the car cruise.

Donations to help fund the celebration are also being sought, with forms and information posted on the Facebook page.

According to a Feb. 18 letter from fire company president Michael Malone, Dewey’s “goal is to honor the past by celebrating the future by holding the most memorable carnival to date in 2015.”

“We certainly hope you will consider helping us with this financial challenge,” he added.

Dewey Fire Co. No. 1 is located at 502 Durham St., Hellertown, and was founded in 1898.
