Mike Kane is a record setting sack master!

Saucon Valley senior Mike Kane has rightfully been on the varsity stage since his freshman year. As a sophomore he was “honorably mentioned” as All-League in both football and basketball. In 2014 as a junior, he was recognized as being All-League and All-Area for the same two sports. Now, 2015 has further rewarded Michael for his efforts as he was again named All-League and All-Area for his football talents.

Also a member of the National Honor Society, Mike has climbed to the top of the Saucon Valley football record book. This past football season brought Mike four quarterback-sacks which brings his career total to 12. This edges out senior teammate Mike Paolini’s 10.5 sacks for a new Saucon Valley record.

When asked to share some of his best memories of the celebrated 2015 football season, he said, “Definitely (Alstan) Wolfe’s game winner against Notre Dame.” For those that do not recall, Wolfe’s heroic grab sealed the Panther victory in the waning seconds of what became the 2015 Colonial League championship game.

Mike also mentioned the following play against Wilson as a personal favorite. Not only did Mike hustle and track down Wilson’s quarterback from the back side for one of his sacks, but he was able to create a turnover that led to a Panther score.

Michael has certainly meant a lot to the Panther football team and the Saucon Valley program has obviously meant much to him. When asked what he thinks he will miss the most Mike responded, “My teammates and coaches. I think those relationships are going to be the toughest things to move on from.” Mike recalled that he will also savor “many interesting conversations with Cody (Zrinski) throughout the season.”

Following graduation Mike is planning on attending college and continuing to play football. At this point, however, he is still weighing his options and not exactly sure where that will be.

When asked if he had any advice for younger Panther athletes, Mike wisely offered, “Take everything in and learn as much as you can from your coaches, or anyone really. Never think that you know it all because when you start thinking that, you will stop getting better.”

A special Saucon Source salute goes out to record-setting sack master Michael Kane. He is another key piece that led to the success of the storied 2015 Saucon Valley Panthers football program.

Good luck Mike with all of your future endeavors! The Source is with you.
