Sunday afternoon the Saucon Valley Youth Football and Cheerleading programs held their annual end of the season banquet. Players and cheerleaders representing the Flags, 90’s, 110’s and 130’s gathered in the Middle School gymnasium and were recognized by their coaches much to the delight of many family members and friends.
After a brief welcome by president of the SV Youth Sports organization Erik Schneider, players were introduced to the crowd by their coaches and rewarded with gifts meant to thank them for their dedication and participation. Following recognition of the players, the cheerleaders performed a routine before they too were honored.
Attendees to Sunday’s event were treated with a special surprise when SVHS football coach Phil Sams showed up with a few of his players. High-schoolers including Brandon Holub, Dino Zaharakis and Steven Rose commented to the audience about the importance of community, hard work and tradition.
Coach Sams also addressed the crowd calling them “one big football family”. Sams went on emphasizing that the youth kids should strive to be good listeners, dedicate themselves and to always challenge themselves in all walks of life. Sams finished encouraging the players and cheerleaders to be “fighters” in everything they do. He pointed out that it is “easy to be a quitter” and hoped that they would all pursue the alternative. It was an inspirational message to all who were present.
Following the recognition of the players and cheerleaders a feast fit for a king took place in the middle school cafeteria. Hoagies, pizza, snacks, sweets and drinks of all varieties were available for all to indulge. It was a great day for youth football and cheerleading. Congrats to the entire Saucon Valley youth football and cheering programs; the Source is with you!
