A proposal by R.K. Commercial of Bethlehem to build and open a combination Dunkin’ Donuts/sandwich shop franchise on the site of a single family home at 920 Hellertown Road–about half a mile north of I-78 and the borough line–was approved 4-0 by the city’s planning commission Thursday, the Morning Call reported.
The developers would like the new Dunkin to have a drive-thru, although the current zoning doesn’t allow for one and assistant city planning director Tracy Samuelson said the city has concerns about traffic from a drive-thru backing up onto Rt. 412 south, the article indicated.
The nearest Dunkin Donuts stores to the proposed Hellertown Road location are at 213 W. Fourth St., Bethlehem (no drive-thru) and 730 Main St., Hellertown (drive-thru).
Rt. 412 north of the I-78 interchange was recently widened and carries a heavy volume of traffic between the interstate exit and the Sands casino, as well as many businesses now located or in the process of opening in Lehigh Valley Industrial Park VII in Bethlehem.
