Trick-or-Treat in Hellertown and Lower Saucon Township will be held Friday, Oct. 31 from 5 to 8 p.m.
In recent years Trick-or-Treat has been held from 6 to 8 p.m. on the last Friday in October, but those hours have conflicted with the Friday night high school football game at Saucon Valley High School that generally takes place the same evening.
This year the 8-1 Panthers will take on rival Palisades at the stadium at 7 p.m. It will also be Senior Night at the game.
An extra hour (from 5 to 6 p.m.) was tacked on to this year’s Trick-or-Treat as a compromise, after it was initially scheduled to be held from 4 to 6 p.m. and some parents complained that the earlier timeframe would be too early, since many residents work until 5 p.m. or later.
For a list of Trick-or-Treat safety tips, visit the SafeKids.org website.
Some basic safety tips to follow include the following:
- Carry glow sticks or flashlights, wear light-colored or reflective clothing and/or affix reflective tape to children’s costumes
- Look left, right and left again before crossing streets
- Make sure the hems of costumes aren’t dragging on the ground
- Only eat treats in unopened, original wrappers
- Always walk on sidewalks where they are available; in areas without sidewalks, walk facing against oncoming traffic and as far to the left as possible
