3 SVHS Students Recognized for Academic Achievement

Three Saucon Valley High School students were recognized for impressive academic achievements at Tuesday night’s school board meeting.

Connor Decker and Rachel Altemose were recently named Commended students by the National Merit Scholarship Program for their scores on the PSAT exam.

Altemose was absent due to a play rehearsal, but high school principal Eric Kahler presented Decker with a certificate in honor of the recognition and called their achievements “truly a great accomplishment.”

Kahler also congratulated Matthew Cherry on being named a National Merit Scholarship finalist, which he said places him in the top 15,000 scorers on the test that 1.5 million students took nationwide.

Cherry was absent from the meeting because he is enrolled in class at Lehigh and was taking an exam, Kahler explained.

He added that Cherry’s academic feat marked the “first time in many, many years” that Saucon Valley has had a National Merit Scholarship finalist.
