Hope for Veterans, which serves vets in seven eastern Pennsylvania counties, is opening the center at 2895 Hamilton Blvd., Suite 207. It will be open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with “specific services being available on individual weekdays,” according to a news release about the opening.

“The Drop-In Center is an extension of the agency’s Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) Program and is available free-of-charge to any veteran or veteran family members who are homeless or at-risk of becoming homeless,” the release said.

Staff will be on-site to provide information and resources for veteran households seeking housing and support services. A vocational and computer lab will also be available, as well as board games and television.

The daily schedule of services offered is as follows:

  • Monday – Job placement and vocational services
  • Tuesday – Budgeting assistance
  • Wednesday – Assistance with SOAR applications
  • Thursday – Housing assistance
  • Friday – Mental health and recovery services

“The center will be a safe and supportive place to come in off the street and access needed resources,” said program coordinator John Maher.

Hope for Veterans serves homeless and at-risk veteran households in Northampton, Lehigh, Bucks, Monroe, Pike, Lackawanna and Wyoming counties, where it provides case management services to assist them in securing housing and in some cases to obtain temporary financial assistance to assist with housing expenses.

The organization has been credited with saving several hundred veteran families from homelessness since it was founded in 2013, the news release said.
