Braveheart, Taps Offer Tasty SV Restaurant Week Menus

Two fixtures of the local dining scene owned by the same restaurateur–Andy Lee–are participating in Saucon Valley Restaurant Week, which continues through Saturday, July 25.

Scottish-themed Braveheart Highland Pub, which is located at 430 Main St., Hellertown, is offering a three-course “Taste of Scotland” prix fixe menu for $15 (available for lunch or dinner):

FIRST COURSE – CHOICE OF:

1. POTATO & LEEK SOUP

2. HOUSE SALAD featuring mixed greens with vegetable accompaniments and your choice of dressing (balsamic vinaigrette, bleu cheese, ranch or honey mustard)

SECOND COURSE – CHOICE OF:

1. BANGERS & MASHED: A traditional Scottish sausage served with mashed potatoes, onion gravy and peas

2. FISH & CHIPS: Cod filets fried in a crispy beer batter and served with cole slaw, tartar sauce and fries

3. SHEPHERD’S PIE: Ground sirloin and vegetables in a beef jus topped with mashed potatoes and baked until golden brown

4. SCOTTISH MEAT PIE: A traditional Scottish meat pie served with onion gravy, mashed potatoes and peas

THIRD COURSE:

STICKY TOFFEE PUDDING: A Scottish favorite, this dessert features a light, moist cake made with fresh dates and served with warm caramel sauce

Like Braveheart, Taps Tavern in Lower Saucon Township is featuring a 3-course, pre-fixe menu available for lunch and dinner for just $15.

Taps’ menu is as follows:

FIRST COURSE:

HOUSE SALAD – Mixed greens with carrots, tomatoes, cucumbers, croutons and red onion with your choice of dressing (balsamic vinaigrette, raspberry vinaigrette, sesame ginger, ranch, bleu cheese, honey mustard or chipotle ranch)

SECOND COURSE – CHOICE OF:

SLOPPY JOE – A traditional “Sloppy Joe” sandwich on a grilled bun

PULLED PORK BBQ SANDWICH – Slow-cooked whiskey BBQ pork topped with onion straws on a grilled bun

CHICKEN PARMESAN & LINGUINI – Breaded chicken breast topped with mozzarella & marinara, served over linguini

SHRIMP TACOS – Fried tortilla shells with grilled shrimp, lettuce, pico de gallo, cheddar jack and spicy remoulade

VEGETABLE STIR FRY – Broccoli, spinach, peppers, tomatoes, onions & carrots in a teriyaki stir fry served over cilantro rice

THIRD COURSE:

HOMEMADE JUMBO CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE – Served warm with vanilla ice cream

Taps is located at 3731 Rt. 378, Bethlehem, and is known for its large draft beer list.

The restaurant is open Sunday and Monday, 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. (kitchen closes at 9:30 p.m.) and Tuesday to Saturday, 11 a.m. to midnight (kitchen closes at 11 p.m.).

The other participating restaurants in Saucon Valley Restaurant Week are Bella’s Ristorante, Cafe Erica, Yianni’s Taverna, DiMaio’s Family Ristorante & Pizzeria and the Springtown Inn.

Restaurant Week is an initiative of the Hellertown Borough Business Revitalization Program (BBRP) in partnership with the Hellertown-Lower Saucon Chamber of Commerce.

Traditional Scottish favorites like fish and chips can be ordered from Braveheart Highland Pub using the restaurant's takeout app. Listed under Scottish Fare on the app menu, it features tender cod filets fried in a crispy beer batter and served with cole slaw, french fries and tartar sauce (pictured substitution: ketchup).
