The 28-year-old mother of a baby whose stepfather allegedly put the anti-anxiety drug Klonopin in her cereal bowl has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child and other offenses, according to an article published by the Express-Times Friday.
Virginia Shaver, 28, of the 1900 block of Leithsville Road, Lower Saucon Township, allegedly knew she was leaving her toddler in unsafe conditions when she left her in the care of Joseph Wilson to go to work on the afternoon of July 15, according to the story.
Police were summoned to the scene when a neighbor intervened after he reportedly witnessed the baby outside in a stroller crying in hot weather.
The story about Wilson’s arrest generated considerable media coverage beyond the Lehigh Valley, after it was picked up by national and international news agencies such as the Associated Press and the Daily Mail.
