Virginia Shaver, 28, of the 1900 block of Leithsville Road, Lower Saucon Township, allegedly knew she was leaving her toddler in unsafe conditions when she left her in the care of Joseph Wilson to go to work on the afternoon of July 15, according to the story.

Police were summoned to the scene when a neighbor intervened after he reportedly witnessed the baby outside in a stroller crying in hot weather.

Police allegedly found Wilson passed out in his apartment surrounded by drug paraphernalia and a partially empty liquor bottle that was in reach of his stepdaughter, according to court records reported about in his case.

The story about Wilson’s arrest generated considerable media coverage beyond the Lehigh Valley, after it was picked up by national and international news agencies such as the Associated Press and the Daily Mail.
