A Saucon Valley man died Sunday following a crash in which police say he crossed over the center concrete median and struck other vehicles on Center Valley Parkway in Upper Saucon Township.
Township police and Lehigh County Coroner Dan Buglio have identified the man as 62-year-old Brian P. McKenna of Lower Saucon Township.
Buglio said Monday that McKenna died from blunt force injuries. He ruled the manner of his death to be an accident.
Police said the crash happened around 11 a.m. in the area of the Promenade Saucon Valley shopping center.
They said McKenna was extricated from his vehicle by officers who arrived at the scene, but succumbed to his injuries.
According to a police department statement, McKenna was driving a 2020 Tesla westbound when he crossed over the median and struck several eastbound vehicles between West Saucon Valley Circle and Corporate Parkway West.
“In total, seven vehicles were involved, containing 10 occupants,” police said. “Three individuals were injured and transported to local hospitals.”
Center Valley Parkway in the area of the crash was closed for several hours while police conducted a crash scene investigation. According to a department update, as of around 4 p.m. Sunday all affected roadways had reopened to traffic.
As of Monday the Upper Saucon Township Police Department’s investigation of the accident was ongoing and involved other agencies, including the coroner’s office, the Lehigh County District Attorney’s office and Lehigh County Crash Team.
Center Valley Parkway has been the scene of several fatal wrecks over the years. Most recently, in an October 2024 crash, a 34-year-old Bethlehem motorcyclist was killed when he collided with an SUV at the intersection of Center Valley Parkway and West Saucon Valley Circle. Two occupants of the SUV were seriously injured in that accident, authorities said at the time.
