Lower Saucon Township Police say a township man was charged with DUI after he allegedly admitted to driving into a wall at Rt. 378 and Frederick Street on the afternoon of Saturday, Aug. 1.

In a news release issued Sunday, police said Robert Ridgick, of the 1400 block of E. University Avenue, was interviewed at his home after officers were called there for a report of a disturbance.

They subsequently observed heavy front end damage to his car, the news release indicated.

Police said Ridgick admitted to drinking prior to the accident, which he told them happened as he was pulling out of Frederick Street.

Ridgick allegedly told authorities the crash happened when he accelerated rapidly across Rt. 378 and into the wall, in order to avoid a collision with an oncoming car.

Police said that in addition to parts of Ridgick’s vehicle, they discovered a damaged water pipe at the accident scene.

Ridgick’s blood alcohol concentration (BAC) was .28 percent after the accident, police said.

Penalties for most drivers in Pennsylvania begin at .08 percent.

In addition to DUI, Ridgick has been charged with reckless driving, accidents involving unattended property, failure to notify police and traffic infractions, police said.
